More about Newburgh YouthBuild

RUPCO was awarded a $1 million grant in 2021 to administer a YouthBuild program in the City of Newburgh. YouthBuild is a pre-apprenticeship training program that offers a wholistic approach to prepare youth ages 16-24 for careers in the trades through skill training, education, and job placement support. RUPCO’s NYB program is implemented in partnership with LYNC Community Foundation, who oversee the daily operations of the program.

NYB will provide high school equivalency, construction, and nursing training to 60 underserved youth ages 16-24 from the City of Newburgh over the 3-year period of the grant. 50 program participants will be enrolled in the construction trades training and will work to obtain OSHA 10 and NCCER construction certifications. 10 participants will be enrolled in the health care track to obtain Clinical Medical Assistant (CMA) training and certification. All participants will engage in leadership training and work on projects with community partners to build disability ramps and complete other repairs for community members in need of assistance.

Construction outside of Church

NYB will operate from Highpoint campus, the site of the former United Methodist Church (currently under development) that is part of RUPCO’s East End II project in Newburgh. The development includes the historic preservation and new construction of 22 residential buildings that contain 62 mixed-income apartments in a seven-block radius in Newburgh.
