eVolume 1, Issue 1
NYS Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli reported this month, that “Housing is becoming unaffordable for millions of New Yorkers amid declining incomes and increasing costs for rent and home ownership.” For us at RUPCO, that’s not news! But we do appreciate the fact that the Comptroller is shining a light on this critical issue for all New Yorkers.
Affordable housing, by most definitions, is housing that costs no more than 30% of the household income. Sadly, DiNapoli notes that in 2002, 40.5% of New York households paid more than 30% of their income for housing and by 2012, 50.6% of New York households paid more than 30%. He said that nearly 28% of renters and 15% of homeowners paid at least half of their total household income for housing.
If you’re feeling this pinch, RUPCO may be able to help. We offer a wide variety of housing solutions from housing choice vouchers to affordable apartments for rent to assisting people with becoming homeowners. This month, we are spotlighting apartments in Kingston. RUPCO offers affordable apartments in all areas of Kingston including Uptown’s Kirkland, Midtown’s Hasbrouck House and Hunter House Downtown in the Rondout area. If you need an affordable apartment, check out the Kirkland or call the property management office to see what else is available! Like all RUPCO departments, you can reach them at 845-331-2140.
