Cutting edge technologies, landscape design techniques and “Green Building” designs were presented by “green” professionals at a daylong symposium being held at Farrell Hall at SUNY Delhi in Delhi, NY on March 8.
Key stakeholders, project developers, educational professionals and most importantly, Delaware County residents and business owners exchanged experiences and forged new partnerships to advance clean energy solutions for homes, public buildings and facilities, as well as the surrounding environment and landscape.
Billed as “Everything ‘Green’ All in One Place in Delaware County,” topics covered included:
- How to reduce home energy usage and costs
- Proper plant selection and energy saving methods
- “Green Building” construction and techniques
- Using sustainable building and landscaping materials
RUPCO’s Mike D’Arcy, Delaware County Outreach Coordinator and a BPI Certified Building Analyst joined the panel of presenters and reviewed the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) Home Performance with Energy Star Programs. He also helped those interested fill out the Comprehensive Home Energy Assessment application right there on the spot.
“It was a great day,” said D’Arcy. “We were able to bring awareness of NYSERDA programs to an underserved county and to create opportunities for people to learn more about energy efficiency, renewable energy resources and energy conservation.” D’Arcy said he and his team were able to strengthen partnerships, counsel people about individual needs and motivate 24 people to take action to reduce their costs and become more sustainable.
