The Award Recognizes RUPCO’s Work on Energy Square

June 10, 2021 (Kingston, NY) – Today, RUPCO was named a recipient of the 2021 U.S. Green Building Council Leadership Award for the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast region. The USGBC Leadership Awards recognize the exemplary leadership of individuals and organizations contributing to the creation of sustainable, healthier, equitable, and resilient buildings, cities, and communities. RUPCO is receiving this honor for its work on Energy Square, a LEED Platinum certified mixed-use, mixed income building in midtown Kingston, NY.

Of the eight regional recipients, RUPCO is the only organization being recognized for a green project that provides affordable housing. Completed in 2020, Energy Square is the first Net-Zero for Living affordable housing in upstate New York and it has received numerous awards and accolades, including:

  • “2020 Project of the Year” for the upstate region – New York State Association for Affordable Housing
  • Paul Davidoff Award for Leadership in Housing and Equal Opportunity – The American Planning Association, NY Metro Chapter
  • Reader’s Choice Finalist – Affordable Housing Finance

“We appreciate the recognition of the USGBC for Energy Square. The award really recognizes the work our design team partners, including Dutton Architecture, Integral Building Design, Magraan Associates and Brinnier and Larios. It’s our hope that Energy Square leads the way for others to follow in Achieving Net-Zero for Living,” says Kevin O’Connor, RUPCO’s Chief Executive Officer. The awards were announced during the final day of USGBC Live – a virtual three-day event that brings together the largest global community of green building leaders to produce insightful and engaging conversations about the future of buildings, cities, and communities.
