Kingston, New York — In partnership with Columbia County, RUPCO will launch the Plus One ADU program on August 8. This initiative is designed to assist Columbia County low-moderate income property owners with grants of up to $125,000 to construct or rehab code-compliant Accessory Dwelling Units (ADU). These ADUs, in various forms, have the potential to create long term housing and bring a host of benefits. They can enable family members, including caregivers, to reside on the same property while having their own living spaces, provide housing for a hired caregiver, generate rental income for homeowners, and help older residents remain independent and “age in place.”
Applicants must meet all program requirements, including owning and occupying a residential unit in Columbia County, where the ADU will be located (vacation or second homes cannot be considered), and the household gross income (pre-tax) from all sources must not exceed the chart below.

In addition, the applicant’s property must be located in zoning where Accessory Dwelling Units must be permitted by right, through site plan review, or through a special use permit in the zoning district where the property is located. Starting August 8, interested applicants can download an application from www.rupco.org or pick up a hard copy at RUPCO’s HomeOwnership Center (301 Fair Street, Kingston.), the Columbia County main offices (401 State Street, Hudson, NY) and the Columbia Economic Development Corporation (One Hudson City Ctre, Hudson, NY). RUPCO will be hosting an information session event on August 8, 6:30- 8 pm, at the Columbia Greene Community College, Lecture Hall 614 – 4400 NY-23, Hudson, NY. The application window will close on December 13, 2024.
