RUPCO Home Repair Grant Informational Meeting, May 9

This public meeting will provide information on the new Ulster County Community Development Block Grant (CDBG)  that RUPCO will administer on behalf of the County of Ulster. CDBG monies will be directed to repairs to eligible owner-occupied homes in Ulster County (excluding the city of Kingston).

We will also discuss other programs if available.

Bring your questions as we will be fielding those questions after the presentation.

Career Opportunity: Maintenance Technician

THIS POSITION HAS BEEN FILLED 11/13/18: The Maintenance Technician is responsible to assist in the day to day maintenance of all RUPCO owned or managed properties. The Maintenance Technician reports directly to the Maintenance Supervisor of RUPCO.  This is a full time position, hourly position.  Duties may include, but are not limited to:

Position Responsibilities:

  1. Use of work order system to accomplish maintenance tasks as assigned. Accomplish unit turnarounds including make ready time.  Provide unit inspections as required.
  2. In association with the Assistant Vice President of Operations and the Maintenance Supervisor, contribute to the development and implementation of preventive maintenance plan. Maintain high quality maintenance standards.
  3. Maintain rental units to include preventive, daily cleanliness and condition of grounds and common areas, emergency repairs or services.
  4. In association with the Assistant Vice President of Operations and the Maintenance Supervisor, assist with vendor relations; including obtaining Hold Harmless Agreements and ensuring compliance with insurance requirements.
  5. Complete required reports. Maintain maintenance files as required.
  6. Provide research and initiative in the area of maintenance or property management.
  7. Maintain compliance with all federal, state and local regulations and other mandated guidelines and policies relevant to property management and operations including safety and quality assurance.
  8. Provide ‘on-call’ after-hours weekday, weekend and holiday coverage as scheduled
  9. Perform additional duties as assigned.

Required Knowledge, Skills, Education and Experience

  • Basic knowledge of general maintenance repairs (plumbing, electrical, carpentry, etc.)
  • Basic knowledge of equipment used to perform general maintenance repairs
  • Able to lift at least 50 lbs., climb stairs & ladders, not afraid to get hands “dirty”
  • Valid & acceptable driver’s license endorsed by agency insurance company
  • Reliable transportation to get between worksites
  • Enthusiastic, friendly and positive attitude
  • Able to work independently but also as part of the team in a fast paced environment
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Attention to detail
  • Excellent communication skills: written and oral
  • Experience in a customer service environment (our tenants are our customers)
  • Tolerance and sensitivity to a diverse population
  • Strong work ethic

Guy Kempe elected to the Board of Directors of NYS Rural Housing Coalition

RUPCO’s Vice President of Community Development Guy Kempe has been elected as Hudson Valley Representative on the board of directors of NYS Rural Housing Coalition. The NYS Rural Housing Coalition, Inc. is a network of rural housing professionals who work toward a common goal: to design, develop, finance, build and manage affordable housing to meet the diverse needs of rural New Yorkers Members share their knowledge and expertise to attain this goal. 

Mr. Kempe completed his undergraduate education at Bard College, attended graduate level courses at the Center for Medieval & Renaissance Studies at Oxford University, and began an MFA at the Milton Avery Graduate School of Arts. Guy has been VP of Community Development since March of 2012 and oversees a staff of three and a current development pipeline worth $100million.

 

For nearly 40 years, the Rural Housing Coalition has brought together affordable housing professionals who work to address the affordable housing crisis, to promote healthy homes and to create vibrant local economies in rural parts of New York. “It’s a pleasure for me to join the board in this important work.”

Save the Date: Rural LISC Annual Seminar June 4-7, 2019We’re co-hosting the 2019 Rural LISC Annual Seminar with LISC (Local Initiatives Support Corporation) to be held June 4-7, 2019, at Resorts World Catskills in Monticello, NY.  Rural community development practitioners from across the nation will convene to share best practices, learn about new developments in the field, network and collectively dialogue on critical issues facing small communities in rural America.  The seminar agenda and presentation materials will be posted here closer to the date. 

As part of that conference, attendees will take a bus tour of RUPCO properties throughout the Hudson Valley including The Lace Mill, The Metro, Landmark Place, The Kirkland and Stuyvesant, Energy Square, Newburgh’s historic East End and  others. We’re honored to bring over 250 people to the region to experience the Catskills and to see  our  innovative efforts in regional community development.
